Laray Mayfield has worked with the Oscar-nominated director David Fincher for 30 years. In 1999, she made her transition from casting music videos and commercials to feature films with Fincher’s Fight Club, starring Ed Norton and Brad Pitt. Since then, her collaboration with Fincher has resulted in an extensive list of award-winning features, including The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl.
Other notable features that Laray cast include the 2011 remake of Footloose (by the director of Hustle and Flow, Craig Brewer) Spring Breakers (Director Harmony Korine), Palo Alto (Director Gia Coppola), and The Intern (Director Nancy Meyers). Recently, she cast several high-profile features that are currently in production or post-production. These include Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed (both directed by James Foley), as well as the live-action adaptation of a popular Japanese manga series – Death Note (Director Adam Wingard).
In 2012, Laray delved into television with the series HOUSE OF CARDS on Netflix, for which she and her partner Julie Schubert won the 2013 Emmy for ‘Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series’ and were nominated for the same Emmy in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Their work on this series from its inception to present has also been honored by the Casting Society of America; they won the Artios award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Casting on a Television Drama’ in 2013, then were nominated for the category in both 2015 and 2016.
Their extraordinary work on Netflix is not exclusive to HOUSE OF CARDS. Together they cast seasons 1 and 2 of the DAREDEVIL series, as well as the first seasons of IRON FIST and LUKE CAGE, both for NETFLIX. Their commitment to excellence will continue as they cast new Marvel series for NETFLIX this fall.
In 2015, Laray served as a panel judge for the Heath Ledger Scholarship. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Television Academy, and the Casting Society of America.
